This would be a truly cool hack. I use exmh for my mail client, and they've
added this capability in to the mail editor. I can highlight any portion of
text within the editor window, then type any shell command in the the "filter"
command area and filter the highlighted text through it. The highlighted text
then gets replaced with the output of the filter/shell command.
This capability adds an unbelievable amount of flexibilty to e-mail, and I
would imagine would also lend a lot to LyX.
Though I don't expect the code to needed to allow this capability to be a
trivial effort, I cast my vote to make this a "Wish List" item :) Definitely
something we could live without, it would be a nice feature, and definitely
something that no other word/document processor (commercial or otherwise)
could ever claim to have :)
Thanks again for such great application, and keep up the great work!
