Because of the font problem ps2pdf produces PDF files that are extremely ugly (not to mention slow to render) when viewed on the screen. It's inappropriate for the term papers and thesis that I'm writing. Only pdflatex seems to produce proper looking PDF files, but it has the EPS image problem aforementioned.
