I don't like that either. But it cannot be avoided, because the way of loading 
fonts differs so much from case to case (\usepackage vs. redefining 
\rmdefault, some support expert options, some don't, some have extra expert 
packages à la eco.sty etc.).

Actually, I thought about "outsourcing" the hardcoding of the fonts to some 
external files (analoguous to our *.layout files). That way, it would even be 
possible for users to add new fonts themselves. I'm not sure if it's be worth 
it, though (and I also would need help on that task).
