That's the version installed via fink <http://fink.sourceforge.net/>,
I believe as a normal part of the fink installation (which is the
easiest thing to use on Mac to get automake 1.9 and gettext). They
simply point to <http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/> for information.
Apple's version is: tar (GNU tar) 1.14
