Also, it seems there is substantial interest in a GTK front-end in the wild. See for instance this recent review:
http://www.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=04/09/15/1345248 and the associated comments. I'm not sure why, but it seems that the toolkit is very important to people. If nothing else, it seems the decision to go multi-toolkit was a popular one. For extra bonus points, the GTK port is the direct route to a true native widget Windows port as well, given that Wimp has been merged into the GTK development branch. A native Windows port, BTW, along with an easy-to-use installer that would set up a complete system including LaTeX and PDF support, would be something that easily could double or triple the user base more or less over night. And then we would get the usual complains: The need for round-trip is important to people. I seem to remember that the user guide more or less round-tripped perfectly? I guess support for SVG is also something which would make a lot of sense these days. An obvious candidate for an external inset, with a link to Inkscape for editing. And maybe import/export from/to Scribus format. There is a spec at http://docs.scribus.net/index.php?lang=en&sm=scribusfileformat&page=scribusfileformat So many things to do, so little time.
