There has been no active development since

2004-02-09  Huang Ying <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

        * GXpmBtnTbl.C : add a GXpmBtnTbl class to automate creating a Xpm
        Button Table according to a set of xpm data or xbm data, is equivalent
        with bmtable in xforms frontend.
        * GMathPanel.C : revise using GXpmBtnTbl.
        * gimages : a directory for xpm used in gtk frontend only.
        * GMathDelim.C : math delimiter dialog.

All ChangeLog entries (src/frontends/gtk/ChangeLog) since that date have
been done by people not especially interested in gtk per-se, but who are
interested in not breaking things for the sake of it. Thus as the core
changes, changes were made to ensure that the existing gtk code did not
get left behind.

I think that the gtk version of the main LyX window is in a working but
fragile state. The font engine seems to be the main point of weakness. If
you want to make a real and useful contribution, I'd concentrate on that.

One other obvious target would be the automatic layout engine of menubars
and toolbars around the LyX screen. Compare and contrast with the
behaviour of the Qt interface...

Finally, the majority of LyX's 40 or so dialogs are not implemented in the
gtk frontend. Most of this is just grunt work.
