I agree, we should not create a barrier preventing entry of new
developers... and also avoid annoying existing ones :)

Concerning the requirements of the client, they seem to be:

  - APR from apache 2.0

If I understand correctly, this is the only one that is needed. If for
some reason the access has to be done through webdav, then we need

  - neon library, which in turn requires openssl and zlib

So it is not terrible as it seems, is it?
