All I can say is that I know a lot of people who would like to see LyX on Windows. However, they are not willing to install a bunch of tools (including a X server) before for that purpose.

I don't understand the objection to the Cygwin tools. At this point,
it's possible to simply download the latest Cygwin (including gcc, tetex,
XFree86, etc.) and install the latest LyX "out of the box". It compiles,
links, and runs beautifully. I compile it almost every day on Windows.

I often talk with people at lunch time and tell them about the great benefits of LyX. However, when they say "Let's have a short look at it", I have to tell them: "Well, first, of course, you must install cygwin and XFree86, then you must configure the X Server and look for an appropriate keymap file in the Internet, and afterwards you must install LyX which runs inside an X window". Can you imagine what happens after lunch? Simply nothing!
