Rob, what you have to understand is that John is obsessed with complying with policies/directives/suggestions of what makes "Good UI." Hence the number of postings and arguements in the last few months in which John has provided URLs for various "Good UI" documents on the web. As such, John, as one of main Qt porters, is trying to ensure that that port gets the best possible, friendliest, coherent, "standard" and whatever else "Good UI" he can create. This is a Good Thing. As one of the developers responsible for the much of look and feel of the XForms reference port I can safely say that I'm glad it's him and not me. The XForms port works for me but I'm into "Bad UI" so if getting a better interface for XForms simply means copying the Qt layout for 90% of the stuff and arguing about the remaining 10% then I'd be happy "to play catch up". After all we'd only be catching up to better layout not necessarily functionality. As for which will be the default or if XForms will be abandoned only time, installed libraries, `./configure` options and user/developer interest will tell. For some history of why most of the developers are interested in GUII and why the frontends are allowed (even encouraged) to be different see: http://www.lyx.org/news/20001220.php3#item2 This is the now famous "GUII Debate" article.
