Yes, good point. I'm not sure that the File solution is the best one though. iirc, the reason that lyx hides menubar items is that xforms has no way to shade (show disabled) a menubar item. I'd much prefer to stick with the traditional approach of showing all the items, but leaving them shaded, if it's possible. Then the user can still do Tools->reconfigure, even without a buffer. > to restart LyX after a reconfigure (too much Window$ style). The Preferences item as the very last item in the Edit menu is quite common. > Of course, that doesn't mean LyX has to follow that tradition, but why not? > That's where everybody expects it to be! It's now too much hidden (at least > when a document is loaded). well, this is a difficult one, because I want the bottom of the edit menu to be the context-sensitive bit: shows math menu only in math, etc. Putting prefs below it means that prefs no longer has a static position. I admit I don't know what to do about this one, I can't think of a good place for it to be. > 4. Navigate: if the Documents entry is plural, then Figures and Tables should > also be plural. Yes, indeed. This requires lyx core changes. > 5. Shouldn't the Preamble dialog merge with the Document->Settings as a Preamble > tab? I'm ambivalent on this one, so I'd love to hear arguments one way or the other. One thing that worries me is that document dialog is pretty complex already, but the document menu is pretty short thanks john -- "If a thing is not diminished by being shared, it is not rightly owned if it is only owned & not shared." - St. Augustine
