Hello LyX developers
If you do Insert > Special Character everything there except for
Phonetic Symbols inserts a single character.It wouldn’t make any sense
to do anything else.You simply can’t insert multiple characters at the
same time.(What order would they come in but you can tell me if I’m
wrong.)But with Phonetic Symbols you get a popup tool bar in which you
can insert multiple characters (one at a time).The popup tool bar is
below the math toolbar which is mostly single characters and above the
math toolbar which does subscripts and superscripts, etc. both of which
I have toggled on by default. It acts just like the two math toolbars.
For my purposes the popup IPA toolbar is ideal allowing me to select an
IPA character and to optionally add diacritics to it.It seems to me that
the developers have done all the work required to get the popup IPA
toolbar but they haven't made it a fully-fledged toolbar that you can
toggle on and off by default.As a former developer myself (but not of
LyX) it seems to me that the hard part has already been done.So this is
a feature request to make the IPA toolbar a fully-fledged toolbar that
you can toggle on and off by default.I would love to see that happen.It
would make my life so much easier.
