Sorry, the problem is obvious. I'm using cmake and although --enable-stdlib-debug is mentioned in the install notes, I can't set that option. Once (more or less) ready I build manually with the LyX-Mac-binary-release.sh script, which by default disables this option. When I enable it, lyx crashes right away when starting. Don't know yet whether this signals other problems or if there is a problem with this option.
Actually the stdlib-debug option does not work on OS X (it may depend on gcc and boost versions, I do not know). But I can use it on linux and tell you what I find :)
