I'm so sorry I did not ask you about this 6 months ago when I first
ran into this problem. I would be a younger man now if I had known
about lyxpak.py back then.
This preserves the directory structure of the saved images, it works
perfectly on the test cases I tried so far.
I think it would be great to include this in the lyx distro. I'm
going to see if I can write a converter for it in preferences so it
"just works" as a Lyx Export menu item.
Serious question: Why don't we include this as a LyX-->Packed LyX
converter? It's not perfect, but it does work, and people are forever
wanting to do this.
Serious answer: because nobody stepped up to include it. You could be
the man ;-)
