Well, it's necessary anyway. If we come to think it's _too_ complex or risky for 1.6.4, we still can ponder a more simple and less elegant solution (such as Richard's first patch) for 1.6.4 and backport the real thing to 1.6.5. But I'm just thinking aloud. Jürgen
