Hi all,

Five years ago I requested an instant preview option for ERT in:
  http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/1723

Uwe just marked this as wontfix, and I disagree with that decision.

Yes, but any extra packages should be specified in the preamble.
Since there are many ERT for which a preview is possible, shouldn't
LyX give users the option?

Sure the preamble and ERT give users the possibility to require
unsupported packages and break stuff. But this seems like an argument
against ERT in general. What does this have to do with an instant
preview?

If I use ERT to generate some exotic figure, I'll want to see how it
looks without rendering my entire document. I don't see how this
violates WYSIWYM.

Both JMarc and Jurgen seem to think this feature could be useful. I'd
like to see some clearer justification, or reopen the ticket. What do
others think? Thanks!
