Well, the other thing no-one mentioned, which does matter, is that we'd
like the tools we distribute to work not just with the formats of the
major releases but also with intermediate ones.
That said, solving this problem is basically trivial. eLyXer need do
nothing more than call lyx2lyx on the input file with the right
arguments to get the format it wants. You don't have to integrate the
programs to do this. In *nix, it's as simple as a two-line shell script.
