First of all, because I already use cygwin (I only use cygwin, maybe :)
on windows and I want to be able to use posix paths and symbolic links.
Secondly, I find very useful the reverse DVI search feature, which is
not available in the native versions.
Thirdly, there are a number of applications I use that are only available
through cygwin, and a cygwin version of lyx interacts better with them.

But I think that you are right. If one doesn't already use cygwin,
there's no point in not using the native versions.
