Hi Uwe,

First of all, let me say that I believe myself to be quite an experienced user. This is why there was/is no need for me to try the Alternative Installer, because I was able to fix the problem myself. I was speaking of the standard installers exclusively, since I believe that this is what most (more inexperienced) users would try first.

Furthermore, I actually _had_ an open Internet connection when starting Lyx for the first time after installation. As denoted by the subject, I tried both the normal installer and the bundle. I also tried "Werkzeuge -> neu konfigurieren" (Tools -> reconfigure) after installation, but without any effect on the packages (no automatic koma-script installation).

Apart from that, I believe that

1) at least the bundle version should work "out of the box". If there is the need to install further components via an open internet connection right after installation, so why is there a bundle version at all?

2) it is not evident for the inexperienced user that there is any need for reconfiguration after installation. Most users will just get confused by the error messages popping up and think that something went wrong with the installation. I think that not all users are willing to do "error fixing" as the first step after installation.

This is why I would include at least some hints in the download and/or installation sections, e.g. here:

http://www.lyx.org/Download#toc3
"These installers will setup a complete LyX environment. For more information about Windows downloads, see our wiki page <http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Windows>."

This is not true, at least not for the German version - cp. above. The environment is not "complete" regarding the named packages and classes. This is why I would change this to:

"These installers will setup a *basic* LyX environment. For more information about Windows *installation in different languages*, see our wiki page <http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Windows>."

... and then include some remarks there regarding special packages like koma-script which should be downloaded after installation in order to obtain full functionality.

Another hint which not related to the topic above:
I remember that in both installer versions (also the bundle) I got error messages when it came to install Aspell (English/German).

Regards,

Steffen
