Dear Lyx team,
I noticed that after installation of German version, at the first start
of Lyx (when the Documentation documents are automatically loaded), an
annoying error message appears telling that some classes and layout
files would be missing.
This must be due to the fact that, in the standard Lyx/MiKTeX
installation, the package
koma-script
(cp. ftp://ftp.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/koma-script/)
is not included automatically. This package delivers important
enhancements and localization features for European typography and so
on. Furthermore, the whole German Documentation project is based on
these classes. This is why the error message appears whenever opening
any help or documentation file.
After installing the "koma-script" package via the MiKTeX Package
Browser, these error messages will disappear - evidently, since the
missing classes can be found, then.
I think the error message at first startup may be quite confusing,
especially to new users. And there is no solution presented in the
Wiki/FAQs, either. I therefore propose to
A) @DEVEL-TEAM: tell the installer to automatically install koma-script
when choosing any European (especially German) language.
and/or
B) @DOCU-TEAM: mention this issue and the workaround described above in
the general Lyx documentation / FAQ / troubleshooting docs on the Lyx
website.
Hope this helps to improve usability and spreading of Lyx, which, IMO,
is a great project!
Kind regards,
Steffen
