Yes. Gratuitous change (a la a certain major software house) will
cost users. I probably couldn't even tell you 3/4 of the bindings I
routinely use--I'd have to hold out my hands to reach for imaginary
keys to figure them out. Relearning is a major cost to the user.

It depends upon what someone writes. When they're universal, we can
use many of them in the middle of sentences, as they automatically
invoke math mode. Greek characters in the middle of a sentence, for
instance, or fractions.
