but the last discussions in this thread are not whether \mathbf or \boldsymbol is correct, but that we have two LFUNs one for \mathbf and second for \boldsymbol and two bindings CTRL+B and CTRL+ALT+B.
But that's what I was talking about. \boldymbol is the correct one and therefore has to be bound to Ctrl-b.
current argumets i see: pros: - CTRL+B for \boldsymbol is more logically consistent
and correct, and works also for Greek characters.
cons: - more people want CTRL+B for bold + upright though
I don't see this. There is currently only one but several others who complained about Ctrl-b for \mathbf in the past.
- we change binding in sensitive area and only few people will read RELEASE-NOTES, you know.
Sure, but we fix a real bug and improve LyX: Ctrl-b in text changes a font only to bold and nothing else, and it works for everything. So the same must be the case in math.
The new behavior will be also explained in the different documentation files. The math manual already describes in detail how to bold formulas. Everybody dealing with this must have read this there ore elsewhere, otherwise he would be lost as \mathbf has so many drawbacks.
