I need to go but,

I have asked you before whether or not you expect users to manipulate
files inside filename.lyxdir directly and you have not answered. If
some part of your workflow rely on direct manupulation of files under
that directory, it will be really confusing for users.

When I use a computer program to generate a figure figure.png, and
insert it to a list file, do you expect me to change my script and let
it update filename.lyxdir/figures/blah.png? This is unacceptable
especially when there is no way to know in advance what the filename
is.

In short, allowing users to work with two copies of the same file
(external files that can be updated from, and the internal copy)
should not be an option.

The rest for later.
