We should choose a file format that serves LyX well. I agree with you that OOo format is better than MS format but this does not matter here. OOo/Word users *does not* use external files. They do not have to work in unbundled mode, they do not have to unbundle. On the other hand, LyX/LaTeX users use external files a lot so we should make working with external files easy. If you do not work with external files, like the way your bundled-mode works, why cannot you make it the only option? Cheers, Bo
