The information on this page is incomplete and is indeed not useful at
all. I would suggest to remove it.
There are a number of features of the official installer that are
missing in the alternative one (e.g. installation by limited users, PDF
updating similar to DVI/Postscript, installation of all spell checker
dictionaries using the installer wizard, debug output on crashes).
Probably there are also some features in the alternative installer that
are not in the official one, but I don't know these details. You'll have
to ask Uwe Stöhr. Most features listed on the LyXWinInstall page are
also included in the official installer.
All features that are requested on the developers list and accepted by
the main developers are added to the official installer. LyXWinInstaller
is a project of Uwe Stöhr and is a bit more separated from the LyX project.
