I think it would be useful to have "Mailing Lists" in the sidebar named
"Mailing Lists / Forum". This is for the same reason that I agree with
Pavel on renaming "Visual Tour" as "Screenshots". The LyX-users list is
also available through a web-based forum interface through Nabble (I put
instructions on http://www.lyx.org/test/MailingLists#toc3 ). Although it
is technically correct to have just "Mailing Lists", many people look
specifically for a forum, since some people are leery of joining mailing
lists. My reasons are that I don't like having my email address exposed,
and don't want all the emails on that mailing list to show up in my
inbox. Also, when someone sees "forum", he knows that he'll be able to
search it for previous answers to his question, whereas not all mailing
lists are archived and searchable.
On that note, I think it would be useful to have a search box somewhere
easy to find on the LyX site (e.g. at the top of the "Mailing Lists"
page) where people could search for answers to their questions. For
example, check out r-project.org and click on "search" in the sidebar:
