I agree, last time I had to work with tex2lyx I felt the need of such class.
Is this the reason why you threatened Georg to rewrite tex2lyx in

FWIW, while it's true that tex2lyx is very C-ish, the code is rather
clean compared to other parts of LyX that have been cleaned up since
then. I don't think we should rewrite tex2lyx. I think tex2lyx should be
cleaned up and integrated into LyX.
