On a more serious note there is an article in LWN today about the release
models:
I fully agree with Linus and I like especially this quote:
Regressions _increase_ with longer release cycles. They don't get
fewer.. This simply *does*not*work*. You might want it to work, but
it's against human psychology. People get bored, and start wasting
their time discussing esoteric scheduler issues which weren't
regressions at all.
I know Georg (and maybe Michael) disagree with me but I really think the
only sane solution considering our obvious lack of time is to release
1.5.0 ASAP even if there's some regression to 1.3 or 1.4. Two points to
consider:
1) Three or four years of 1.4 did not solve all the regressions
2) 1.5 already solved a number of important regression of 1.4 WRT 1.3
I don't think we will loose our face by releasing 1.5 "as is".
