Yes, This patch enables the use of input method by "On the spot" (on Windows).

What about the Underbar and DotUnderbar methods? Is this a way to have a
horizontal cursor that span the character width?

The preedit string should do a different display to two (Or, three)
because it is distinguished (string, cursor position, and rest
..the selection by the input method..).
DotUnderBar, Underbar, and the reversing display are used as
the format to distinguish.

In any case I suggest
that you split your patch in two:
1) the input method change: I think this should go in as soon as possible.
2) the horizontal line painting: as you already discovered by the place,
this code should be transferred to the Painter.
