Georg, I thought about that. The TrollTech site suggested removing earlier versions, but I see no harm in having both on my system. I just did this with another library (I forget which one) in a failed attempt to get Gnucash working. All I need to is 'installpkg ...' rather than 'upgradepkg ...' and they're both there.
