No, that's not the problem. The same tex file (exported) and translated using
pdflatex is just perfect. That's why I guess that pdflatex is not called at all
_although_ I click on the pdflatex menu item. 1.4.3 (which I went back to
because of this) works fine.

Does Tools -> Preferences... -> Converters show the converter from LaTeX
(pdflatex) to PDF (pdflatex) being pdflatex?
