There are a bunch of bugs in the installed version (I'm 3-for-3 crashing
LyX while trying to read the docs), but I assume those are mainly LyX
bugs rather than installer bugs.
Are these bugs reproducible?
I just installed 1.4.4.1 again (this time on a dual-core machine), and
the business about C-W ceasing to work and LyX crashing on exit
afterward are reproducible (as is the absence of the help TOC). The
problem with C-W (and the ensuing crash) is a bit funny, though. It
happens reliably if I open two documents and then immediately close them
in last-in, first-out order. If I open three or more documents and then
close them, the bug does not appear. If I open two documents, navigate
among them (i.e., switch out of the second document), then close them in
either order, the bug does not appear.
(Suggestion to the developers: I spent a few minutes fruitlessly trying
to highlight everything in the error information window, copy to
clipboard with Ctrl-C, etc. before discovering the context menu copy
command. Might be a good idea either to point it out in the error text
or else add a copy-to-clipboard button to the dialog. Let me know if
you want me to post this to bugzilla as an enhancement request.)
No button please, but Ctrl-C should definitely work. Did you try whether
this works in the 1.5 snapshot?
No, I haven't looked at 1.5 yet.
Something in the help docs seems to want MikTeX to install sidecap.sty
and marginnote.sty. I have MikTeX set to nag about missing packages,
and the nag popped up behind the LyX window (where I couldn't see it).
I don't *think* that relates to LyX crashing, but I'm not positive. (I
also don't get why opening a help doc in LyX would cause it to get
MikTeX involved -- I'm not trying to View the docs, just open them in
LyX.)
That is not supposed to happen. Are you sure that the window is related to
opening the help, and is not some delayed stuff from configuring before?
The windows were not open when configuration completed and the installer
asked if I wanted to start LyX and/or create a desktop icon. I do have
instant preview enabled, though, as Bernhard Roider asked.
