You have instant preview enabled, do you?
The other thing I've noticed so far is that if I open more than one document, then close the most recently opened document with C-W, thereafter C-W stops working (although File->Close still works), and when I exit LyX it crashes.
This happens with instant preview enabled in 1.4.3 and in 1.4.4 when the preview is generated. I have to confirm four or five message windows (from the system and from lyx) when this happens!
