I do not know whether the messages send during this meeting were seen
as particularly bright and witty, but I am personally appalled by the
pompous bullshit we have been served.
We fixed *a lot* of VERY HARD TO FIX bugs, and now LyX is usable again.
Some of those bugs have been chased for MONTHS.
Check out LyX from this Thursday, and compare with what there is in SVN
now. If that is not progress, then you are smoking crack.
We backed down on the UTF-8 decision, and agreed that Georg could go
ahead with his patch to support the other encodings.
GTK is in a branch.
Qt3 can be resurrected if someone wants to, but all others on the list
were positive about this.
The only known bug in Qt4 is the initial size of the preferences window.
André has a proof-of-concept patch ready which will hopefully speed up
Qt4 front-end a lot on windows (and also some on Linux) by avoiding an
extra double buffer.
All in all, I think we have done the only responsible thing: We have
rescued the trunk, which was COMPLETELY broken. We have introduced a
freeze because otherwise, the trunk will break again. Just look at what
has happened the last few months. LyX was becoming progressively worse-
1.5 will be monotonously better than 1.4.
So.
Stop whining. Or have some cheese with it:
