I don't know how you get the impression that Uwe's suggestions are not taken seriously. I do certainly take them seriously. I do nto agree with all of them, but if that is the case then it is not because I did not take it seriously, but because I have thought about it and found some reasons for disagreement. > We've discussed it several times in private mails that I have problems > understanding your code and of course that my project that I spend so > many time to, was replaced from one day by another by your new one. The announcement of Joosts installer came indeed a bit surprising, and I wish he had contacted you earlier. BUT: According to him (I never looked at either installer source) he reused much of your code, so your work is not lost. > But OK it is like it is, but why shouldn't it be allowed to offer > improvements in a different installer. I just believe that our scarce resources would be better spent if there was only one installer. > Sometimes I'm wondering that it takes so long to add features that users > often request on the lyx-users list. If not please tell which one you meant. I do not remember seeing this on the list. In my experience features that take long are those that are controversal. I am not aware of any straightforward patch that got ignored. And if that happens then it could simply be that the relevant people overread it in the high number of messages. > Even such small but very useful things like showing the > table and math toolbar automatically when the cursor is in a > table/formula wasn't accepted. Because there are good reasons that where explained: Toolbars that pop up and vanish can be highly irritating. I think this is a good example for a problem with a suboptimal solution that could be solved better with a bit of discussion. This needs of course more time, but IMO the better end result warrants that. > My installer proves that the changes I > made are stable because I got no complaints but only emails asking why > some of the features aren't in the offial LyX. I doubt that it will be quicker than using C-S-m followed by M-m n, but it might nevertheless be good for new users. Georg
