I don't know how you get the impression that Uwe's suggestions are not
taken seriously. I do certainly take them seriously. I do nto agree with
all of them, but if that is the case then it is not because I did not take
it seriously, but because I have thought about it and found some reasons
for disagreement.

The announcement of Joosts installer came indeed a bit surprising, and I
wish he had contacted you earlier. BUT: According to him (I never looked
at either installer source) he reused much of your code, so your work is
not lost.

Sure it is allowed, and nobody is going to stop you. I just believe that
our scarce resources would be better spent if there was only one
installer.

Do you mean this one? http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2418. If not
please tell which one you meant. I do not remember seeing this on the
list.

In my experience features that take long are those that are controversal. I
am not aware of any straightforward patch that got ignored. And if that
happens then it could simply be that the relevant people overread it in
the high number of messages.

Because there are good reasons that where explained: Toolbars that pop up
and vanish can be highly irritating. I think this is a good example for a
problem with a suboptimal solution that could be solved better with a bit
of discussion. This needs of course more time, but IMO the better end
result warrants that.

Of course.

I think so. Do you have a patch?

I doubt that it will be quicker than using C-S-m followed by M-m n, but it
might nevertheless be good for new users.
