I've seen that the last days were quite painful... May I suggest that we
borrow an idea from the Linux kernel release management?
I think you could say that the time window for committing something to
1.4.x is limited to 15 days after the delivery (that is now). And then
let the branch be tested for 15 days before being released.
What do you think?
