Dear LyX developers,

I am a teaching assistant at the Statistics Department of the Technical
University of Berlin. I am also responsible for the software the group has
to use. In that role, I changed from LaTeX to LyX six months ago. Thus,
I've made all the updates from release 1.0.2 to 1.0.4.

Here is a list of suggestions for further versions. They came in mind
during my work with LyX (I am currently writing my whole thesis, which is
going to be a 200 pages book, in LyX):

*) make the symbols visible in the Math-Panel also
visible in the Math-Editor (this concerns the arrows (mapsto)
as well as all extra symbols - the bitmaps are already given)

*) retain the \limits in integrals and sums, if a formula is
copied (I suppose, this must be very easy to do but isn't done
for the last three releases - it's frustrating that EVERYTHING
copies execept the position of the limits)

*) please introduce a main document option - this would easen
the compilation of a splitted document and makes it unecessary
to switch back to the main document manually if one wants
to update the dvi or postscript.

*) try to make boldsymbol{} visibile (dilate/erode the bitmap??)
in the math-editor. Espcially bold greek symbols in formulas
           mess them up on screen.

*) the behavious of "bold-font", "sans-font" ... is different in
text mode and math mode; it would be more natural, if it is
possible to make (regular) symbols bold AFTER having typed them
in math-editor (currently, in math-editor one has to know
beforehand if "x" should be bold or not - changing is only
           possible by rewriting it.

Apart from these small changes, I have to say that I REALLY LIKE LyX and
suggest it to everybody I know (I already convinced all friends of mine to
use). Congratulations for that excellent piece of work!

Cheers

Ralf Herbrich

P.S.: I've "programmed" a few new layouts (technical reports, MIT books,
exercises and exams) and templates (letters). I don't know if this is of
interest because most of the LaTeX class files they base on were
personally written by me.
