Good idea. I justs did, and found that this particular change has no
effect on the UserGuide. It might be the reason why nobody reported it
yet :)

The differences it shows, though, is that I disabled your fancy
footnote code (with a couple of #ifdef in paragraph.C) because of the
many reports we had about footnotes appearing on the wrong page. I
think it is worse than the original bug... Could you have a look to
see whether what I did is safe? I did not remove any code, but just
#ifdef'd out the code that triggers all.
