Hi guys,

I mostly lurk because I have mostly not been using
lyx much (I went back to flat laTeX -but I'm
looking forward to trying some of the new stuff).

I do have a brief opinion on scripting languages,
though.

I like the sound of tcl. Simple and extendable.
Not being a C person, scheme holds less attraction
but also seems quite impressive.

The concept of basic is not at all attractive.
I know it may be simple, and I like many others,
cut my teeth on it, but I've since learned
so many other things that I like much, much
better! Of course, I don't believe that
opinion should be very heavily weighted --
I'm not a user who would really use the
scripting stuff much if it all, and I don't
depend on LyX much either ('cause I don't do
many documents, and the ones I do usually
are quite straight forward).

There was a (massive) discussion (featuring
John Ousterhout "the tcl guy" and Richard Stallman
[who seems to be responsible for the GNU architecure!],
and lots of other very knowledgable people) about
Tcl VS. other scripting languages. Most heavily
featured as an alternative was scheme.

The messages were all collected and arranged at:

        http://icemcfd.com/tcl/comparison.html

And runs for 138 printed 8.5"x11" pages.

I recommed it heartily for purusal.

        Best Regards,

        -Cedric
