All Wxwin ports are native, so speed is not an issue, afaict.
Code bloat is something you will get anyway, either it's your own code 
that is becoming bloatet, which means the maintenance problem is on you, or
it is the toolkit code thats bloatet, then the problem is on the toolkit
developers. 
In a general move to push as much as possible lowlevel effort to libraries,
e.g. the STL effort, it would imho be smart to do the same with the GUI.

Still I personally prefer Qt over Wxwin because of the guaranteed 
professional development and the maturity of Qt. But in order to be serious 
about Open Source I tend to support Wxwin. After all Qt is not really free 
for all platforms.
