I use it on all my desktops.
Everything works just as before. Including network-manager.
It doesn't magically solve the problem of X crashing once every 1 to 4
weeks, it doesn't make me a cup of coffee in the morning[1], it isn't
bigger on the inside then the outside, and my time machine is still on the
blink. Nor does it stop strangers having loud arguments outside my office
window.
It does have a learning curve to know how to use it properly, and my finger
memory still hasn't learnt the new commands properly. I blame my fingers
for this oversight, not systemd.
Although I haven't needed it yet, I like being able to get logging output
for a daemon, just by using "systemctl status", e.g.:
=== cut ===
aquitard# systemctl status ssh
ssh.service - LSB: OpenBSD Secure Shell server
Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/ssh)
Active: active (running) since Wed 2014-10-15 09:12:32 EST; 37min ago
Process: 2147 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/ssh start (code=exited,
status=0/SUCCESS)
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/ssh.service
└─2371 /usr/sbin/sshd
Oct 15 09:12:29 aquitard systemd[1]: Starting LSB: OpenBSD Secure Shell
server...
Oct 15 09:12:32 aquitard sshd[2371]: Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22.
Oct 15 09:12:32 aquitard sshd[2371]: Server listening on :: port 22.
Oct 15 09:12:32 aquitard systemd[1]: Started LSB: OpenBSD Secure Shell
server.
=== cut ===
Which I am guessing uses the binary journal everyone likes to complain
about.
I also like the fact that daemons are started correctly, and does not
inherit any part of the environment the administrator had active when
he/she run the init.d script.
There are many other things I like about systemd, will leave it here for
now.
Notes
[1] This is good because I don't like coffee.
