I replied to Shachar's mail on Hamakor's list, but I hope people won't hate me too much for repeating here what I had to say, because I see the discussion here is much more "lively".

In fact, dividing a huge project into small efforts is an excellent idea, and even more so in the free software world. For example, Dan and I developped Hspell (which was later to be incorporated into OpenOffice) completely outside the OpenOffice framework (and not solely for OpenOffice's benefit, of course). Similarly, OpenOffice used a ready-made bidi solution (ICU, I believe?). OpenOffice could probably use the following help from the community, none of which really requires compilation, or even coding: (note that I'm just hypothesizing here - I have no connections to OpenOffice development) * Continued font development, so that OpenOffice don't need to include bizarrely-licensed commercial fonts. * Translation of menu strings * Translation of help files -- Nadav Har'El | Monday, Feb 9 2004, 17 Shevat 5764 [EMAIL PROTECTED] |----------------------------------------- Phone: +972-53-790466, ICQ 13349191 |What's the difference between roast beef http://nadav.harel.org.il |and pea soup?
