You're tryinng to play audio with xmms - maybe XMMS is set to another output plugin?
What I suggest: 1. Try to run "aumix" to see that the default sound is your sound card and not something else. 2. You seem to run ALSA. Try to play with a native player (xine, mplayer) an audio or audio/video file/movie - see if it works.. 3. Make sure that you don't load both modules (i810_audio and alsa), and just in case - add the snd-pcm-oss module to the loaded list - for compatibility..
