Look at what happened in the last year, just today I read in slashdot about sun giving away star office to millions of students all over the world. So I guess it can't be that bad? if it's responsible enough for so many coutries to encourage the students there to use staroffice why can't we? and please don't tell me cause of hebrew, I read enough word documents which has hebrew in them in the last few months.
That the point of comming to the school if they would make it possible for kids to hand papers in OO file format then nothing would stop them from doing just that. The change is happening around the world I think we should join the wave, like many other countries already did.
