Yes, and this is called apt. This is the current generation of package
management in Debian. Using "apt-get --update gnome", for example, and
leaving your comp connected over night, you get a fresh release of gnome,
includeing all libs. If we already started talking about Debian packaging
system, there is another point too: Every package can declare not only
required packages, but recommended and suggested as well.
