Well, I know thats whats alien is for, but because it's not the same
packaging system it can't check conflicting packages, so if you are not
carefull you can over write parts of a debian package.
I ran into that trouble by mitake in the past.
Also not all the files are distributed in the same places, a thing that
can also cause trouble.
I usually prefer workaroud solution then using alian for these resons.
