There are actually a number of EVs which you can purchase for not only less than $40,000 but also less than $30,000. Additionally, you should receive up to $10,000 in federal, state and local rebates. Federal should be $7500. The state is I believe $2500 for vehicles under $50,000, and many local municipalities have an additional rebate of up to $1500.  

There really hasn’t been a better time to buy an EV. And with the rebates it’s better to get brand new than used.
