That does it. I was trying to think of a way to place something invisible
as an anchor, but I'm not learned enough at this yet.
But the horizontal shift is now a bit big :-)

Okay, so since I'm at it: to give the note some anchor, add an invisible
note in some other voice as follows:

(That should replace the whole measure in Tom's original example.) The g
note kind of "allocates" some position for the whole chord or beat, w.r.t.
which the force-hshift works.
