Did you follow the instructions in the text file? There's no graphical interface for this program. The text file tells you how you go about creating a score with Lilypond.
Save the file by doing File>Save As>testfile.ly Then choose Compile>Typeset File (my memory may be faulty here) It's possible to do this from a terminal but requires some additional setup on Mac.
