Oh boy, I was clearly having a great day yesterday ... 'Reading only the
first half of everything' syndrome, both the LM section _and_ Graham's
message discussing adding to the docs.
Anyway, it seems that his suggestion must have got through on a
subliminal level at least, hence my weird follow up email talking about
expanding the Makam snippet into a NR section.

Yup, I'll see what I can do. I'll try to prepare a patch with git. It
probably makes it easier to do it in NR because I can prepare the table
with texinfo instead of .ly markup.

I know no more than you about Makam but there are surely enough
resources available to be able to write something that makes sense and
extends the current snippet. As for sections -- my preference would be
to group all Makam-related stuff together, pitches and all. This
replicates 2.9.1 on Arabic music, where the note names are discussed in
the second section.
(Arabic note-names are certainly mentioned, in brief, in the 'Note names
in other languages' section of 1.1.1 but they correspond much better to
the standard semitone and quarter-tone pitches than the Makam pitches
do. So we have two approaches: either Makam as a self-contained entry
in World Music or an extra section in 1.1.1 referring to non-Western
pitches. I'd go for the former.)
What about translations? Reading through the Makam snippet I noticed
that it contained multiple translations alongside the core English text.
How do I address the issue of divergence between English and the other
texts?
