I asked an almost identical question in November and the first answer I

As a mere musician, I'm afraid many of the answers I received last time were
too technical for me to understand, so I'd be really grateful for simplicity in
responses.
Thoughts:
1. Why do you use version 2.14? If only to ensure that more people on the list
can help you, you should consider upgrading to the most recent stable (or even
unstable) version.
2. Your code formatting/structure makes it *very* difficult (at least for me)
to quickly figure out what’s going right/wrong.
I am pretty sure that the Lassus_Osculetur_me.ly file was not produced
by the OP. It seems identical to this thing on CPDL.

So I am guessing that the version and coding style are just like it was
found.
Hang in there, Peter! LilyPond is challenging to learn. So are all the
other notation programs I have ever seen. (Or if not, they're not very
capable, either.) And some of the LilyPond projects on the IMSLP and
CPDL websites have file structures and coding styles that are not the
easiest to follow.
One approach you could try is starting with a standard template -
something like what Kieren wrote here, perhaps, or one from the LilyPond
documentation:
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/learning/templates
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/snippets/templates
With these, it's easier to understand what's happening with the code.
Then you could try copying and pasting the pitch-and-duration code from
the project you want.
Eventually, you'll have to choose between learning how LilyPond does
things...
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/learning/index.html
...or taking your chances with list members' patience for fixing large,
broken projects from online music repositories...
...or reaching out to someone offering paid LilyPond consulting.
Possible examples, although I don't know exactly what they'd offer in
that area:
